Highgate Apartments
Built in 1971, the high rise was originally the Australian Head Office for Esso Australia Ltd. Known as Esso House, it was purchased by property developer Isador Magid in 1992 as one of the first office towers in central Sydney to be converted into an apartment tower. At the time, it was the largest commercial to residential conversions of its kind in Australia.
In 1993, approval was gained for Highgate, which would be the name of the apartment tower. Crone & Associates were behind the design which included adding extra levels to the building taking it from 19 storeys to 27 storeys or 100 metres tall. Work began that same year and was completed in 1995.
The building is now a luxury five-star 210 apartment complex of 32 levels, considered to be one of the best in Sydney due to its location and prestige.
Westox was initially contacted to write a specification in 1998 for a long term and durable external coating. It was determined that Westox Highblock C Primer and Westox WBA Membrane would be best suited for the job. The job was completed that same year.
Westox was then contacted in late 2020 to write a new specification. Upon inspection, it was found that some of the sealants in the joints (not Westox products) had broken down and needed replacing. When inspecting the 22 year old Westox WBA Membrane coating, it was found that 90% of the coating was still in good condition.
On further talks, it was decided that even though the existing WBA Membrane application was still in good condition, they would recoat and update the colour of the building with Westox WBA Membrane.
Integrated Asset Solutions was contracted to complete the work. The Owner's Corporation was extremely happy and impressed with the results achieved by Integrated Asset Solutions.
The job was completed in 2022.
