Cocoon Under a Microscope

After removing the Westox Cocoon from a heritage building in Sydney, NSW we were able to examine it and take a closer look under the microscope. What you can see through the microscope is the salt crystalising on the face of the Cocoon.

This is the first time we have visibly removed calcium salts (gypsum salts) using a new technique with the existing Westox Cocoon product. This process can now be used to remove not only the calcium salts (gypsum salts) but also calcium carbonate (efflorescence).

Westox Cocoon is a poulticing medium designed specifically to remove salts associated with rising and lateral damp from masonry walls and surfaces which works especially well on sandstone.

Made from non-toxic materials, Cocoon has no detrimental effect to masonry, is premixed (requiring no onsite mixing) and can be easily applied by spray or trowel.
